The Healing Lens — A Proposal
Proposal — La Playa Wellness Month & Beyond

The Healing Lens

A nature-photography workshop for stillness, noticing, and mental clarity.

Twelve guests. One phone camera each. Two hours or more by the water — grounded first in what research shows about the calming effect of simply viewing nature photography, then spent learning to make (and keep) images of their own.

The idea

Just looking at images of nature has been shown to ease stress and restore attention. The Healing Lens opens with that idea and my own story, then gives guests the time, the tools, and a beautiful stretch of water to go create something of their own.

A typical session

120+ minutes, start to keepsake

0:00 – 0:15

Welcome & the story

My own path into photography, and what research shows about the calming, attention-restoring effects of simply viewing nature imagery — setting an emotional tone before anyone touches a camera.

0:15 – 0:45

Tips & tricks

A fuller walkthrough of phone-photography basics — composition, light, framing — with room to actually practice, not just hear it. Every guest also leaves this portion with their own personal folder of instructions and reminders, so nobody has to try to memorize it all in the moment.

0:45 – 1:30

Shoot, on location

Out to the beach, the dock, or the mangroves along the bay — guided, unhurried, camera-phones only.

1:30 – 2:05

Editing walkthrough

Simple, guided edits framed as "bringing out what you already saw" — not correcting mistakes. Enough time to sit with a few favorites, not rush through one.

2:05 – 2:20

The keepsake

A small printed sticker of a favorite shot, on the spot — plus the option to order a print home through HiTek.

Total run time: approximately 2 hours 20 minutes — adjustable based on group pace.
Included for every guest

A personal field folder

Each guest takes home their own printed folder from the tips & tricks portion — the rules of thumb, reminders, and a few extra prompts to try later. Something to flip back through long after the session ends, instead of trying to hold it all in memory.

Subjects to explore

A fresh prompt, every session

I'll introduce a short list of subject ideas at the start of each session — the same menu each time — so guests can lean into whichever speaks to them that day.

The takeaway

Something to keep, not just see

Included

On-site sticker print

Every guest leaves with a small printed sticker of one of their own photos from the session, made on my own on-site sticker printer — an immediate, tangible souvenir at no added cost to the program.

Optional add-on

HiTek print, shipped home

Guests who want something nicer can order a professional print through HiTek Imaging in Naples, shipped directly to their home (they print my own work, so I've personally vetted them for quality and reliable shipping). This is a separate, guest-paid transaction — it stays outside the resort's cost of running the program.
